Former AISA-Delhi President faces rape allegations from fellow JNU student

A 28-year-old PhD scholar at Jawaharlal Nehru University was allegedly raped by a fellow student on Saturday when she went to his hostel room to copy a movie on a pen drive.

The accused, Anmol Ratan is a fellow student and leader of  AISA, the student wing of the CPI (M-L) and the woman alleges that a few days ago she had posted for a copy of movie called ‘Sairat’ on Facebook and the accused had replied, asking her to collect the movie from him. On Saturday, the youth sent her a text message offering to copy the film onto a pen drive. Later, he came to her hostel and asked her to accompany him to his room. The woman said that he gave her a spiked drink and she fell unconscious after consuming it. When she awoke, she found the youth lying beside her. He threatened to harm her if she revealed the matter to anyone.

The police said that an FIR had been lodged and her statement under CrPC Section 164 would be recorded on Monday.
She has undergone a medical examination and the reports are awaited. JNU registrar Pramod Kumar said that they have not yet received a formal complaint from the woman or the cops. “I was unaware about the incident but will look into it,” Kumar said.

Members of the students’ council said that they will probe into the allegations. “We have taken serious note of the fact that a leading activist of AISA is facing a criminal complaint of sexual assault. He has been expelled from the primary membership,” said AISA Delhi state secretary, Ash
