Former IFS, MP Syed Shahabuddin dies at 82

Former IFS, MP Syed Shahabuddin dies at the age of 82 on Saturday morning.  Shahabuddin breathed his last at a hospital in Noida. He died following a prolonged illness.

Shahabuddin had strongly stood against the destruction of the Babri Masjid during his time. He was also the leader of the Babri Action Committee.

Shahabuddin was born in 1935, in Ranchi, Jharkhand. He started working as a diplomat for the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). However, he later became a politician. Shahabuddin served three terms from 1979-1996 as an MP.

Shahabuddin is renowned for his participation in the Shah Bano case and his stand on the demolition of the Babri Masjid. He had achieved many feats in his career. He served as a diplomat, an ambassador and also a politician.

Shahabuddin was also the Joint Secretary in charge of South East Asia, the Indian Ocean and the Pacific in the Ministry of External Affairs.
