Former President Pranab Mukherjee passes away at 84

Doctors on Monday morning warned that there was a decline in his condition and he was in septic shock due to infection in his lung.

The Former President Pranab Mukherjee passed away on Monday at the age of 84. He was on ventilator support after undergoing a brain surgery at Army’s Research and Referral (R&R) hospital on August 10. Doctors on Monday morning warned that there was a decline in his condition and he was in septic shock due to infection in his lung.

Later in the afternoon, his son Abhijit Mukherjee made the announcement.

“With a Heavy Heart , this is to inform you that my father Shri #PranabMukherjee has just passed away inspite of the best efforts of Doctors of RR Hospital & prayers ,duas & prarthanas from people throughout India ! I thank all of You,” tweets his son Abhijit Mukherjee.

The 84-year-old former President underwent the surgery to remove a clot in his brain after he suffered a fall at his Rajaji Marg residence and he has been in coma since then. He was also tested coronavirus-positive.

The former president had also tested positive for coronavirus. The Bharat Ratna awardee was admitted to the Army hospital in Delhi cantonment on August 10.

Mukherjee was the 13th President of India from 2012 to 2017.
