With Lok Sabha Elections approaching soon, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged the influential personalities of the nation to encourage maximum voter participation.

In a mage Twitter appeal on Wedneday, PM Modi tagged top politicians including Congress president Rahul Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, celebrities including Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, spiritual gurus like Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Sadhguru and other prominent personalities on Twitter urging them to “encourage” people to vote in record numbers in the upcoming Lok Sabha Election.

The PM began by making four genuine requests to the voters and asked them to first get themselves registered for polling, check all facts before the polling in their area, plan their schedule carefully so that they don’t fail to cast their vote and encourage others to vote.

Making his first appeal, Modi went to bitter opponents – Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, Sharad Pawar, Mayawati, Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav and MK Stalin. Tagging all these leaders, PM Modi said he appealed to them to “encourage increased voter participation in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. A high turnout augurs well for our democratic fabric.”

In his next tweet, he tagged Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and YSR Congress leader Jagan Mohan Reddy, urging them to “work towards bringing maximum Indians to the polling booths in the upcoming elections.”

For filmstars, the tweets referenced popular dialogues.

Modi also reached out to various sports persons like PV Sindhu, Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. He then sought participation of spiritual gurus Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Sadhguru for “greater voter awareness.”

The 2019 edition of the Indian general election is scheduled to be held in 7 phases from 11 April 2019 to 19 May 2019 to constitute the 17th Lok Sabha. The counting of votes will be conducted on 23 May 2019 and on the same day the results will be declared.
