Funeral sites in Delhi full with Covid dead, allege parties as video goes viral

New Delhi: Even as government data says the number of deaths due to Covid-19 is 948 in Delhi, a video has gone viral about Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh funeral site, with BJP leader Kapil Mishra tweeting the video.

The situation at the funeral sites are pathetic as distressed family members have to wait for hours to get the rituals done.

BJP leader Kapil Mishra has said: “Put your advertisement here (Chief Minister) Kejriwal ji.”

In the purported video a man is heard saying that this site is full and there is no more place for more funerals.

Congress leader Ajay Maken has also questioned the number of deaths as claimed by the government.

“Total 2,098 persons have been cremated as per COVID protocol in Delhi. But the government figures say just 984,” said Maken.

He gave the break-up: South Delhi Municipal Corporation 1,080; North DMC 976 and East DMC 42.

“So, the real death rate in Delhi is 6.4 per cent, highest in the country —

Or is it second highest only after Gujarat?” asked Maken.

As per reports, the Punjabi Bagh funeral site has been reserved for persons dying of Covid-19. On Monday, the MCD issued a notification that those dying for other reasons should not be brought to the site.
