A gas cylinder burst claimed the lives of five people and left four others injured Delhi’s Okhla on Monday.

According to Delhi Fires Services, a phone call was received around 9.56 pm about a cylinder blast at a tea stall in the Tata Steel jhuggis.

The fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire was brought under control by 11 pm, a senior officer of the Fire Services said.

He added that two shanties were engulfed in the fire and at least nine persons received burn injuries in the incident.

Police said that the injured were rushed to the ESI and Safdarjung hospitals.
