Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) supporters on Tuesday will burn copies of the landmark Gorkhaland Territorial Administration accord in a protest. The accord was signed on July 18, 2011 between the Centre, state and GJM that allows the semi-autonomous body to rule the hills.

The programme of the burning of the agreement was declared by GJM president Bimal Gurung last week. Besides, GJM members who won all the 45 seats of the semi-autonomous body of GTA have also resigned.

The resignation and burning of the accord indicate total refusal of the agreement to dive headlong into the fight for statehood. GJM leaders did not disclose the time and place set for the agitation. But Darjeeling and Pintail village in the foothills could be two of the locations.

Last evening, miscreants burned the house of Rajen Betiwal, chairman of West Bengal Khas Cultural Development Board. The house was located at Paiyun Bustee in Kalimpong. His three cars were also destroyed.
