Do I require a visa to travel to Germany from India?

Yes, Indian citizens who wish to travel to Germany are required to register for a visa in order to be granted entry. Indian citizens can register for a visa to Germany at the German embassy in their home state or at the VFS Global visa application centre.

Types of Germany visas for Indians

The following are examples of visas for Germany that Indian nationals can register for from India:

  • Short-term visas
  • Schengen visa

Applicants who desire to visit Germany for up to 90 days may apply for a Schengen visa, also known as a Germany short-stay visa. Currently, there are 27 member states in the Schengen Area, including Germany. Please be advised that you are unable to work in Germany with a Schengen visa.
