Get Ready to Binge: HBO Max's Exciting New Releases Coming in April

HBO has an amazing reputation for delivering great TV series and coming up in April and the months after, they are expected to continue the good work.

March on HBO was a busy month and as you would expect from a platform that is going toe-to-toe with streaming giant Netflix, the quality of output does not look like it is going to drop anytime soon.

On this list of shows you can get ready to binge we go from animated shorts to stories of modern fame, then from Watergate to the Gilded Age. A comprehensive selection that we cannot wait to get stuck into.

Only You: Animated Shorts Collection

Only You: Animated Shorts Collection is a highly anticipated upcoming show on HBO that is bound to capture the hearts and minds of viewers worldwide.

The show, which is set to air in the coming months, features a collection of animated shorts that tell unique and captivating stories, each with its own distinct visual style and aesthetic. Each instalment will only be thirty minutes long. This makes it the ideal series for those who like to binge watch episodes and move on to something else, such as indulging in online live dealer games. With a diverse collection of artists and unique perspectives, it is sure to keep your attention for days on end.

The Idol

New series do not come much more glamorous than this one. The Idol is HBO’s star-studded new series that will see The Weeknd on the screen – so you can expect a serious soundtrack for this one, too. A self-help guru, a rising pop star, and a modern cult collide for some first-class television.

The Idol is a show that should keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. It’s a story about ambition, rivalry, and the lengths that people will go to in order to achieve their dreams and all the pressure they are under once they get there. It’s got twists and turns that will leave you guessing until the very end.

This one is sure to be a hit with the younger crowd given the context of the series, so do not be surprised if you end up seeing plenty of clips from The Idol on the likes of TikTok and Instagram Reels once the roll-out of the show gathers pace.

Whitehouse Plumbers

From House of Cards to the West Wing, political dramas can really top the charts in terms of the best series. When they are good, they tend to be really gripping, scandalous, and addictive. The same can be said of historical dramas like The Crown which bring real-life stories to juicy, TV series but pay close attention to factual accuracies at the same.

Whitehouse Plumbers will combine all of the above in a mini-series that is sure to thrill and inform in equal measure.

Set in the 1970s around the Watergate scandal, the show is of course based on real-life events and we go behind the scenes in an ‘if these walls could talk’ approach to one of the most important moments in American political history.

The show boasts an impressive cast, with Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux in the lead roles. The plot uses the 2007 book Integrity to get its immense details, which was written by Egil Krogh, one of Richard Nixon’s former lawyers.

The Gilded Age Season 2?

For those who may have missed the first season, The Gilded Age is a period drama television series set in New York City during the late 19th century, a time of great change and social upheaval. It involves the old money elite who have been living in New York and obtained wealth by the rise of industrialization.

The attention to detail in the series is superb, from the costumes to the set design, even down to some of the vernacular used by the cast. The series, created by Julian Fellowes of Downton Abbey fame, boasts an impressive cast that includes Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, and Amanda Peet.

The first season was well-received by both audiences and critics, with onlookers enjoying the almost voyeur-like experience of following the lives of the wealthy elite in New York City as they navigate the growth of the city at the time.

Whilst there is no date yet announced for the second series, it has been produced and already shared in HBO Max’s trailer of what is to come in 2023 from them. Fans can expect even more intrigue and drama as the story continues to unfold. The show will explore the changing roles of women and people of color during the Gilded Age, as well as the rise of labor unions and the emergence of new technologies.

If you haven’t watched season one, you’ve still got time to catch up!
