The History of Global Cat Day

Global Cat Day was created in 2013 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and Alley Cat Allies, two organizations dedicated to the protection and welfare of cats. The day was created to celebrate and raise awareness of the benefits of cats – both as pets and as members of the global ecosystem.

Since its inception, Global Cat Day has been celebrated in over 30 countries around the world. Every year, cat lovers come together on October 16th to celebrate the special bond they share with their feline friends. In addition to celebrating our love for cats, Global Cat Day is also an opportunity to educate others about the importance of responsible pet ownership and humane treatment of animals.

Each year, IFAW and Alley Cat Allies work with partners around the world to promote responsible cat care and humane treatment of all cats. We also use this day to remind people that every cat deserves a loving home.
