Nakshatra Baby Names With Meanings: In Vedic astrology, a baby’s birth time is used to find their Janma Nakshatra, or birth star. The Moon’s position at the time of birth is used to identify this Nakshatra. Many families then choose a baby’s name using the sound linked with that birth star.

There are 27 Nakshatras in Vedic astrology. Each one is split into four smaller parts called Padas. This gives a total of 108 naming sounds. The traditional belief is that choosing a name with the suitable sound can support the child’s growth and bring positive energy.

Why Nakshatra-Based Naming is Considered Important?

Naming a baby according to their Nakshatra is an old practice followed in many Hindu families. The idea is that the sound used at the start of a person’s name should match the Pada occupied by the Moon at birth. Basically like the first four sounds connected with Ashwini are “Chu”, “Che”, “Cho” and “La”. A baby born in one of those Padas may be given a name beginning with the related sound.

The belief behind this practice is connected with Swar Siddhanta, where particular sounds are given importance in traditional astrology. Parents may use the recommended sound while still choosing a name that has a nice meaning and is easy for the child to use.

How to Find the Correct Nakshatra Syllable

Finding just the baby’s Nakshatra isn’t enough to select the exact starting sound. The Pada is also needed because each Nakshatra has four different sounds.

To work out the baby’s Nakshatra and Pada, parents need the baby’s exact:

  • Date of birth
  • Time of birth
  • Place of birth

These details are used to prepare the child’s Kundli or birth chart. From the chart, the Moon’s position can be checked and the baby’s Janma Nakshatra and Pada can be identified.
