Tribal activist Bela Bhatia was allegedly threatened by goons at her residence in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, on Monday. The goons have allegedly asked her to leave Jagdalpur within 24 hours.

According to local media, around 20 to 30 goons, who came in an SUV and several bikes, told Bhatia that her house would be burned down and she would be killed if she didn’t leave Jagdalpur immediately.

“I have been attacked by a mob of 30 or so men who came in a white Bolero type vehicle and mobikes. They threatened their way inside the house. They said I would have to leave immediately or they would burn the place,” the activist said in a social media statement.

“They threatened to burn the house, killed her dog etc, and also threatened the landlady,” renowned Economist Jean Dreze was quoted by NDTV as saying.

The goons came in a Bolero car bearing the registration number CG173056, and threatened to kill the activist’s landlady also.

Bhatia has been facing threats since she helped tribal women to register FIR against security personnel for gang rape and other sexual assaults.

In October, multiple media reports showed Chhattisgarh police and security forces reportedly burnt effigies of journalists, petitioners and activists, including Bela Bhatia.
