Newly elected Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union’s (JNUSU) president N Sai Balaji allegedly attacked by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members early Monday morning on September 17, just a day after the election result was declared.

The ABVP, not content with the toxicity and violence they unleashed during the counting of votes for the JNUSU elections, have resorted to further violence in the immediate aftermath of their thorough defeat. They attacked common students and Balaji, the new JNUSU president, in the presence of police, in a PCR van. Adding to the already worsened situation, ABVP members have reached the police station where the newly elected member has gone to file a complaint against the threatenings and attacks.

“I am right now at Police station filed a complaint. But ABVP is mobilising students with sticks and bouncers outside the police station. Saurabh Sharma has threatened in PS that he will finish me once I come out. There is a grave danger to my life and others who are with me. Shubhanshu and Shahzad are with me. Please pressurise the police to provide security to us. It’s an appeal. – N Sai Balaji,” writes Sai Balaji on social media seeking help.

ABVP members had attacked some students at around 1 am on Monday. After the situation worsened, Balaji was called in, and when he came to interfere, he and the former president, Geeta Kumari, too was assaulted by the ABVP members.

According to Balaji, he was asked by his fellow students to sit in the Police Control Room vehicle to escape any attack. Despite that, ABVP stopped the vehicle and pushed one of their members to sit along with Balaji. At this, Balaji ordered the PCR to take him to Vasant Kunj police station to file a complaint. However, the mob followed him and reached the Vasant Kunj police station and started threatening them. University teachers have also accompanied Balaji and are present with him in the police station.
