The last Budget session of the 13th Gujarat Assembly will start from Monday. The session is likely to be tempestuous with the opposition raising issues like the Patidar reservation agitation, the Naliya “gangrape” case and alleged police brutality on the farmers in Sanand.

The session is also significant as it is being held just months before the Assembly elections. The Vijay Rupani government may roll out a populist Budget considering the Assembly polls.

The Governor O P Kohli will address the House on Monday as it is the first Assembly session of the year.

The Deputy CM Nitin Patel who also holds the finance portfolio will present the Budget on Tuesday. The budget session will be of 26-day long and first after Saurabh Patel, who was finance minister in the previous Anandiben Patel government.

The Gujarat government is already certain to place nine Bills in the House for debate and approval. It is likely to bring some more Bills during the session as well.

In the meantime, Opposition Congress will try to take on the government over various issues including the alleged Naliya gangrape case.
