Gujarat: Congress MLA gets jail term, likely to face disqualification

Somnath: Bhagwan Barad Congress MLA from Talala, Gir Somnath district, Gujarat, is likely to face disqualification after a local Taluka Court sentenced him with a jail term in mineral theft case, dating around 24 years back.

The court of Judicial Magistrate found him guilty under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. He was sentenced with a jail term of 2 years and 9 months under section 379 (theft) and 420 (cheating). The case pertained to theft of minerals worth over Rs 2.8 crore from a cow pasture land in Sutrapada, Gujarat in 1995.
