Sumitra Mahajan forwards plea to disqualify BJP MP from Rajasthan

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has forwarded a complaint by the Bhartiya Janata Party seeking the disqualification of its Member of Parliament from Rajasthan, Harish Meena who contested for assembly election from Congress ticket.

The Speaker has forwarded the complaint to the Lok Sabha Secretariat for appropriate action.

The BJP MP from Goa Narendra Sawaikar alleged that Meena has joined the Congress without resigning from the party from his Lok Sabha seat. The Speaker took note of his complaint and taken up the matter with appropriate authority in the House.

Meena has won Deoli-Uniara seat in Tonk district in the recent Assembly election.

As per sources close to BJP, BJP MP has demanded Meena’s termination for violating the anti-defection law.

In his complaint, Sawaikar said, “Till the date of filing of his petition, Harish Meena has not resigned from the primary membership of the BJP and as the Lok Sabha MP he joined the Congress on November 14 and at that time he was in the BJP.”

Meanwhile, Meena who defeated his elder brother and senior Congress leader Namonarain Meena in the 2014 Lok Sabha from Dausa constituency is any way to submit his resignation in the next few days in the ongoing winter session of the Parliament.
