A diamond businessman in Gujarat has gifted two-wheelers to his staff as a gift for the company doing well regardless of a sluggish economic record. Reportedly, Laxmidas Vekaria gifted his 125 staff with two-wheelers as yearly increment at an event.

Vekaria kick starts his business in 2010. He is the second businessman from India’s diamond sector who hit the headlines for his generosity towards his employees.

In 2016, diamond export industrialist Savji Dholakia gifted his staff 1,260 cars, 400 flats and pieces of jewellery ahead of Diwali. His firm spent around Rs 500 million (Rs 50 crore) under the loyalty programme to reward its staff.

Surat is India’s diamond cutting and polishing hub. However, jewellery is made at different places. Therefore, merchants in the town have been struggling for profits.  This made the PM earlier this month to call for a ‘Make in India’ push in the gems and jewellery segment.
