In an appalling incident, six members of a family, including four children, residing in an apartment in Hathijan Circle in Vatva was found hanging on Friday.
Police are investigating if the cause of suicide was financial constraints emerging due to extended lockdown or some social reason.
Those who died of suicide include two brothers Gaurang Patel and Amrish Patel, and their four children Mayur, Dhruv, Kirti and Salvi. They ended their life by hanging from the ceiling of their vacant flat in Prayosha Residency in the same locality.
According to Ahmedabad Mirror report, on Thursday, the two brothers left home along with kids telling their wives that they would return in a while. When hours went by and they did not return, the wives called up their mobile phones but their calls went unanswered.
Police believe Gaurang and Amrish first killed the four children and later claimed their own lives by hanging from the ceiling. Police have not confirmed how the kids were killed. Sources said the kids are believed to have been killed by gagging their mouths.
Their bodies were found from their old house in Prayosha Residency on Friday morning. Vatva police reached the spot to investigate the case further.
