Gujarat: Two home-grown suspected terrorists detained by ATS

The Anti-Terrorists Squad of Gujarat Police on Sunday detained two brothers who were home-based terrorists said to be working for Pakistan’s ISI. Police said, as per the preliminary information, accused Waseem Ramodiya and Naeem Ramodiya were planning a terror strike at a temple on a hill in Chotila in Surendranagar district, 55 km from Rajkot.

Along with 98 gm gunpowder, two face masks, battery used for making bombs and about a dozen wicks made of jute thread were gripped from the accused, the ATS said. There were many issues of Islamic State magazine “Dabik”, said to be the organization’s mouthpiece, with tem.

The ATS found techniques to make explosive devices and guerrilla warfare on two seized laptops and mobile phones from them. There were also a lone-wolf attack strategies, the ATS said along with other “objectionable literature” that was found stored on their computers.

ATS Deputy Superintendent of Police K.K. Patel said, “Acting on specific information, the Gujarat ATS team picked up the two suspected terrorists with IS links.”  As per the officers, the two brothers were under ATS scrutiny for the last one-and-half years. They were under observations after it was found that they were allegedly connected with the IS through Twitter and Facebook.

Police decided to detain the two after they came to know that they are planning to strike “in a day or two” at the Chotila temple. Thousands of devotees visit the temple daily.
