Bhagwatikumar Sharma, a Gujarati language author, and journalist passed away. He was rewarded with Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak award in 1984 and Sahitya Akademi Award in 1988 for his distinguished work in literature. Saddened on his demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief through his tweet.

The first poem he wrote was on Mahatma Gandhi’s death on January 31, 1948. Later in 2009 he was elected the president of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad and remained on the position till 2011.
