An Important date of the Sikh community is approaching, which marks as the birth anniversary of the tenth guru of Sikhism- Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti. This year the auspicious day of Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti will be celebrated on January 20, 2021, this year.

This would mark as the 354th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh and this celebration is also called as Guru Gobind Singh Parkash Utsav or Prakash Parv.

There are many different dates for the birthday of Guru Gobind Singh, the last of ten Sikh Gurus was born on December 22, 1666, but there is a lot of confusion with regards to Julian calendar with regards to the date. But when converted in the Gregorian calendar, it is January 1.

So this year, Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti would be observed according to the Hindu calendar date Saptami, Shukla Paksha, 1723 Vikram Samvat, so this year Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti 2021 will be celebrated on January 20.

Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti 2021:  History and significance

Guru Gobind Singh became the leader of the Sikh faith when he was just nine years old following the death of Guru Tech Bhadur. He made quite a few contributions to the culture of Sikhism and initiated Khalsa order, a strict moral code of spiritual discipline.

He gave great guidance and inspiration to people and also fought against injustice. He isn’t just a leader, but a poet and a great philosopher. On this holy day, people also recite his poems, attend recitals. On this day, many people and beleivers attened satsangs, and give food to needy.
