After the murder of a class 2 boy in Gurugram on Friday, the city witnessed another shootout. The second incident happened in  Sector 50 on Friday evening, when unidentified men fired at a moving SUV, injuring the man who was driving it, and a woman who was in the navigator’s seat.

Both of them survived, but are seriously injured and are being treated in a private hospital. The SUV, with bullet-riddled windscreen, has been taken into custody. Police are waiting to record the statements of the survivors.

As per the police, the survivors have been identified as Iliyas (32), a resident of Dhunela village near Sohna, and Bimla Sharma (30), a resident of Rajendra Park. The relation between them is unclear as they are unconscious right now. No family member of either survivor had contacted police till the time this report was filed.

The incident happened near St Xavier’s School in Sector 50, when the assailants started firing on the moving Toyota Fortuner SUV. Iliyas, who was driving the car, managed to control somehow and stop the car on the roadside, but the men continued to fire on the car, before finally escaping from the spot.

According to an eyewitness, the assailants used two motorcycles for their getaway.

When the police reached, they rushed the two survivors to the hospital, where their condition was reported to be critical. Iliyas received four bullets in his legs, stomach and arms, while Bimla received one bullet, said police.

Police are yet to confirm it, but sources said Iliyas is the same person who recently changed sides from the gang led by Ashok Rathi to that of his rival. “We’re waiting to record the statements of the injured man and woman, who are not fit yet. The probe is on,” said Inspector Surender Singh Phogat, SHO, Sector 50 police station.
