CoA provisionally lifts suspension on Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul

Following the controversial remarks at Koffee with Karan Indian cricketers, Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul have been ruled out for the first ODI. Although KL Rahul was not selected for India’s playing XI for the 1st ODI against Australia at Sydney.

Committee of Administrators (CoA) member Diana Edulji recommended a suspension pending inquiry for the controversial remarks of the cricketers on women during the TV show.

Initially, Edulji came up with the suggestion of two-match ban for the cricketers which was also recommended by COA chief Vinod Rai. But later, the BCCI legal team refused to declare their comments a violation of the code of conduct. After that Edulji recommended suspension till further action against Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul.

Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul appeared on the popular TV show called Koffee with Karan. This is a chat show in which famous filmmaker Karan Johar invites celebrities followed by an in-depth conversation which reveals some personal secrets of the celebrities.

On the show, Hardik Pandya made sexist and racist remarks which ignited the controversy. KL Rahul was a lot more restrained in his comments regarding women and relationships.

Hardik Pandya’s cringe-worthy and creepy remarks sparked social media outrage and instigated him to apologise. In his apology, he wrote that he “got carried away” by the nature of the show.

Pandya apologised by tweeting, “Honestly, I got a bit carried away with the nature of the show. In no way did I mean to disrespect or hurt anyone’s sentiments. Respect”

Indian skipper Virat Kohli deplored the comments made by Pandya and Rahul calling them “inappropriate”. Kohli said, “We definitely don’t align with those views and those are purely individual views. The two concerned players felt what has gone wrong and they have understood the magnitude of what’s happened.”

All-rounder Pandya had been out of action since September due to a back injury sustained at the Asia Cup. He was expected to play against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground but unfortunately, his return to the Indian squad has been put on a hold by COA after suspending him till further action.
