Haryana: Gurugram becomes ‘rape-capital’, Panipat tops in women kidnapping

During the second day of ongoing Vidhan Sabha session, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar revealed shocking figures stating millennium cities Gurugram, Faridabad and Panipat as the most unsafe places for women.

Answering to a question raised by Congress legislator Jagbir Singh Malik over the details of the number of cases registered pertaining to crime against women, Khattar said that Gurugram has become one of the most unsafe places for women as it has topped the charts in rape cases, followed by Faridabad. Panipat leads the chart in kidnapping cases.

According to figures of crime against women tabled in the Vidhan Sabha, from January 1 till June 30, 95 cases of rape were registered in Gurugram, followed by 90 cases in Faridabad.

In terms of kidnapping cases of girls/women, Panipat recorded 325 cases in 2018, followed by 268 in Gurgaon and 234 in Faridabad.

There were 1,413 cases of rape, 3,494 kidnappings of women, 2,320 cases of molestation lodged across Haryana from September 2017 till date. While offences of rape, molestation and kidnapping registered an increase, there was a decline in dowry harassment and dowry death cases. The dowry death cases were 202 and dowry harassment cases were 2,896.
