Heavy rains lash part of Himachal Pradesh and northern India causing commuters stranded for hours. Following the heavy rain, the Chandigarh-Manali national highway remained block for hours. A portion of the road in Mandi district submerges after the Beas river water raises.
Increase in water level followed as a result of nearby dams of Larji and Pandoh released the water. The district administration has urged the people not to go towards the river. The river Beas is flowing above the danger mark.
On Sunday evening movements of vehicles were stopped a couple of times. In the meanwhile, Manali in Kullu district has received the highest rainfall at 127.4mm in Himachal Pradesh. The weather department has predicted more heavy rain and snowfall in the upper areas of the state till today.
Ravi River is also flowing above the danger mark. Heavy rain in the upper parts of Kullu district spelled chaos in the area.
Schools remain shut and normal life has adversely been affected in most part of the state. The government has announced the closure of all educational institutions in the districts of Chamba, Kullu, Sirmaur, Kangra, Kullu, Hamirpur on September 24 and 25, while in Bilaspur and Shimla district, schools will be closed only on Monday.
