High alert declared after 3 killed in attack on GREF camp in Jammu’s Akhnoor

Three people working as labourers with General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) have been killed in a terrorist attack in Batal in Akhnoor district on Monday morning, following which a high alert has been declared in the region.

The attack took place in Akhnoor sector this morning on the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) camp. Initially, Gun shots were heard near GREF camp in Akhnoor district. The entire area has been cordoned off.

According to officials, terrorists had attacked a GREF camp around 2 a.m. in Battal area in Akhnoor sector of the IB.

As per the reports from the area, the terrorists managed to escape after the attack. The exact numbers of militant are yet to be known.

Police have begun an operation searching inside and around the camp. High alert was declared in Jammu district at large and in Khour tehsil in especially.

The GREF is the parent cadre force of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). It builds and maintains border roads in the nation. This was the first terror attack in Jammu in New Year.  The last terror attack happened on November 29 last year when terrorists wearing police uniforms attacked an army camp in Nagrota area of Jammu. Total seven soldiers, including 2 officers, were killed in Nagrota incident.

The Border Security Force camp in Samba district was also attacked by the Terrorists on the same day.
