A Palestinian rammed a truck into a crowd of Israeli soldiers who were visiting the famous tourist spot in Jerusalem, killing five and wounding at least 15 people, said authorities. The driver was also killed in an attack at the spot overlooking holy sites in the Old City like the Dome of the Rock as said by the Israeli police. The location provided one of the most spectacular views of Jerusalem.

The European Union (EU) condemned the truck-ramming attack. “The EU condemns the murder of these four young Israelis, as well as any praise or incitement for terrorist acts,” a spokesperson of the European External Action Service (EEAS), or the EU’s diplomatic service, said in a statement as per the reports.

“There can be no justification for such a crime,” the spokesperson said adding that “the EU will continue to work with those who seek peace and denounce those who pursue violence and terror.”

The perpetrator was identified as Fadi al-Qanbar from East Jerusalem’s Jabel Mukaber neighbourhood. Israel’s police spokeswoman Luba Samri said that the occurrence was a “terrorist attack,” though the probe has yet to be concluded.

The assailant on Saturday drove his truck into a group of soldiers standing on the side of the road, killing at least five including three women, and wounded 15 others. It was touted as one of the deadliest attack amidst a yearlong wave of ferocity. Two gunmen killed four persons at a trendy recreation compound in Tel Aviv last June.
