Himachal Pradesh: Spanish paraglider missing ahead of pre-world cup, Russian and Lativian injured

Jose Lewis, a Spanish paraglider who was reported missing from Bir Billing takeoff point has been spotted on a hill between Thumsar Pass and Bara Bhangal village area of Kangra valley and the rescue team will get him out on Tuesday.

A Spanish paraglider, Jose Lewis, 40, is missing in Kangra valley of Himachal Pradesh since Saturday and three other paragliders fro Russia and Lavia are injured and admitted to the hospital ahead of the Pre-world cup scheduled from October 26.

Jose took off from Bir Billing in Kangra valley on Friday and disappeared. Bir Billing is one of the highest paragliding taking off-site in the world and attracts people from worldwide.

The Rescue Team is trying to find out his whereabouts but after various efforts, he could not be traced.

A helicopter and five free flyers were arranged by the government officials and the search operation is on.
The Sub Divisional Magistrate of Baijnath area Vikas Shukla said that a helicopter is deployed for the rescue mission of this Spanish pilot.

Shukla is also the chairman of SADA (Special Area Development Authority) which regulates paragliding in the region.

Shukla also said that search operation with the helicopter is on since Saturday but no success yet. The rescue team had conducted the search operation in Palampur and Dhauladhar hills but due to bad weather, it was called off post evening. It will start again from Monday.

3 to 4 paragliders are injured after they took off on Sunday. Two among them had landed in Mandi district Barot area and two of them have been identified as Venegiam from Russia and Pakulus from Latvia.

Venegium has reportedly injured his spinal cords and had been taken to Tanda Medical college, and other three are being treated in private hospitals.

Bir Billing is hosting paragliding pre-world cup show from October 26. The administration has promised sufficient security arrangements. Even last year many paragliders have met with an accident after taking off from the valley. Officials are also having the problem in identifying them as people without registration are also jumping off and getting injured.
