Hockey World Cup 2023 Schedule: The FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 begins on Friday at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar with a match between Argentina and South Africa. The opening act will begin at 1 PM IST. Meanwhile, hosts India will play their opening match against Spain on the same day at 7 PM IST.
The match will be played at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, which will also host the championship tournament. There are 16 teams competing in the Hockey World Cup.
There are four teams in each of the four groups: Pool A, Pool B, Pool C, and Pool D. India are grouped with England, Spain, and Wales in Pool D. The tournament’s championship match will take held on January 29.
Notable is the fact that India is hosting the competition for the second consecutive year. Back in 2018, Bhubaneswar hosted the FIFA World Cup. Belgium defeated the Netherlands in the tournament’s championship match, while Australia won the bronze medal.
What is the format?
Each club will play three pool matches, with the winner advancing directly to the quarterfinals. In the meantime, the second and third teams from each of the four pools will compete in the crossovers, from which the remaining four teams will advance to the quarterfinals.
