But a local resident, known online as Reddit user u/Shukrant25, has surprised everyone by making his own air purifier at home for only Rs 2,000. His invention has gone viral and earned him the nickname “jugaadu scientist” on social media.

The man shared photos of his homemade device on Reddit and explained how it worked. He said, “I built my personal air purifier in Rs 2,000… and it is working great, even better than the phillips one I have.” His post quickly spread online, getting thousands of upvotes and comments from amazed users. According to Shukrant, his simple air purifier can bring down a room’s AQI from 350 to 50 in just 15 minutes.
He explained that he made the purifier using basic items a 150mm exhaust fan, a HEPA filter, some cardboard, wires, and an on-off switch. The total cost added up to around Rs 2,000, including Rs 750 for the fan, Rs 1,000 for the HEPA filter bought on Amazon, Rs 150 for cardboard and glue, and another Rs 65 for wiring, switch, and regulator.

Even though the purifier looks like a small school project, Shukrant said it cleaned the air in his 12×12 ft room very well. He claimed it brought down pollution from an AQI of 400 to 50 in 15 minutes. Usually, air purifiers that perform like this cost between Rs 15,000 and Rs 25,000, so his version has impressed many people for being cheap and useful.

Many called it “Delhi’s desi innovation” and even compared him to “India’s Elon Musk.” One excited commenter said, “Please make another one and please shoot video for that!
