NEET 2019: Dress Code, Guidelines and FAQs

With an aim to bring transparency into the admission process in engineering courses, the Centre is considering to introduce a single national level test for entrance in engineering colleges similar to the NEET examination in Medical colleges.

Earlier, there were reports that the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was considering making Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), the single entrance test for undergraduate engineering courses. Currently, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts JEE for admissions to the leading IITs, National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institute of Information Technology and other government funded institutes.

Notably, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) faced a severe judicial process before the Supreme Court made it obligatory for admissions to medical colleges.  NEET has replaced AIPMT, and became mandatory for admissions in all-India medical/dental colleges. Now, no other state can conduct its separate medical entrance.

Now, the Union HRD ministry is considering holding a single national level test, only criteria for admissions into the engineering colleges.

Reportedly, advanced level consultations have already been held on the matter. The step will also check allegations of irregularities and bring transparency in the admission process. “There have been some complaints in the past and the HRD ministry is keen to make a system as transparent as possible,” a senior official added as per a report in India TV.

Even if it gets approves, the proposed test will only come into existence from 2018 onwards.
