Huawei had earlier announced that the company was working on a foldable 5G smartphone and it would be launched at MWC 2019. The Chinese smartphone maker has shared a press invite on twitter for an event at 2 pm CET (6:30 pm IST) February 24, 2019, in Barcelona.
The invite shows an outline of a foldable smartphone’s hinge which clearly indicates the product Huawei is expected to launch. Huawei Mobile captioned, “Come with us to explore #ConnectingTheFuture LIVE from #MWC @GSMA. Are you ready to reveal the unprecedented? #HuaweiMWC #MWC2019.”

The fifth generation foldable smartphone is expected to come equipped with the in-house HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC and the Balong 5000 modem. It will reportedly feature a 7.2-inch display and the company is likely to manufacture between 24,000 to 30,000 units.
Huawei started working on their foldable smartphone flagship for the first time in the fourth quarter of 2017. Soon after that, a report emerged that the Chinese-smartphone aims to one-up Korean smartphone company Samsung. But Samsung has already scheduled a Galaxy Unpacked event on February 20 where it is expected to launch the Galaxy S10 series along with the foldable Galaxy smartphone.
2019 appears to be the year when the foldable form factor truly becomes mainstream. As companies like Samsung, LG and Xiaomi are also reportedly entering in the foldable smartphone segment.
