A two-year-old girl accidentally slipped in a drain and died on Thursday night in Hyderabad. According to the her mother, the child, identified as Riya, fell into the drain outside her residence in Pallecheruvu area of the district.
Riya who was playing in front of her home fell in the drain and her parents lodged a complaint with the police after they failed to trace their child.
However, the girl’s body was later traced in the drainage. The police registered a case and are investigating.
Riya’s mother immediately pulled her out of the drain, but could not save the young girl.
G Rajesh, Sub Inspector in Mailardevpally Police Station, said the body has been shifted to Osmania General Hospital for post mortem and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Further probe is on, he added.
This is not the first time that a life was lost due to open drains. In the past, a lot of similar incidents have happened in the past where kids playing on streets fell into drain, wells, and digs due to carelessness on the and of administration.
