I Am With your data, think twice before sharing personal details

As the year of General Elections now at a knocking distance, India is frightened that the blanket of fake news might thicken. One more such scare is with regards to the data protection policies, there has been a constant discussion on the Aadhar leaks that have taken place over the last years.

Amidst all this, another site has added itself to the list of the ones you should be wary of, the site’s website address is iamwith.in. The front page of the portal pops four logos for users to select from. Three of them belong to political parties, namely, BJP(Bhartiya Janata Party), Congress and AAP(Aam Aadmi Party). While the last one is reserved for NOTA.

An option to select “Vote Now” when clicked asks one their personal details. The form has three entries to fill, Name, Email address and the mobile number. This is where it gets scary, in the mobile number field, “PayTM” is mentioned. Probably, asking the users to provide with their PayTM number.

When the user with Twitter handle @Scimitar_SS pointed out that the website maybe giving Pay TM cash in exchange for the data, Elliot Alderson, French security researcher who earned his reputation in India by reporting about Aadhar breach on multiple occasions, examined the website. He came with several revelations and concluded that the website has been set up unprofessionally and might have been created in a hurry.A simple Whois lookup points the domain purchase date to be 23 October 2018 under GoDaddy.

Kindly be cautious with the website as it has been tagged “not fully secure” by web browsers.

We request all our readers to not give their personal details to the sites, apps, and surveys they don’t trust.
