Important Government Changes

TRAI implementing traceability rules

Starting December 1, 2024, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will enforce new traceability rules aimed at reducing spam and phishing messages.

These updated rules require telecom providers to trace the origin of all commercial messages, including One-Time Passwords (OTPs), to help prevent fraud. While TRAI has assured that OTP deliveries won’t be delayed, the new rules may temporarily affect OTP services.

Telecom companies will be able to block malicious messages and protect users from scams by tracking the sources. However, if telecom providers don’t meet the new requirements, there could be widespread OTP delays or blockages, impacting essential services like banking, social media, and e-commerce.

LPG prices

Oil companies may start changing the price of LPG cylinders every month. This means the cost for households could go up or down depending on global oil market trends and government policies. These changes could affect your monthly budget, so it’s something to keep an eye on.

Aadhar card changes

UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has extended the deadline for free Aadhaar updates until December 14.

Deadline for late ITR filing

If you missed the July 31 deadline to file your Income Tax Return (ITR) for the Financial Year 2023-24 (FY 24), you still have time to submit it until December 31.

However, there will be a late fee. If your income is over Rs 5 lakh, the fee will be Rs 5,000. For taxpayers with a combined income under Rs 5 lakh, the late fee is reduced to Rs 1,000.
