There is now a helpline number for people who have been issued a notice to disclose their unaccounted income. The Income tax (I-T) department officials said the helpline will restrict frauds trying to impersonate an income tax official.

As per the principal commissioner of I-T, Noida, T Tonsing Prasad, this facility will help resolve the problem of imposters posing as IT officials. The government has asked the citizen to disclose their unaccounted money with the demonetization drive. Although, many industrialists have complained about receiving calls from cheats, claiming they are I-T department officials.

The I-T department can be reached at 0120-2412865 from 10 am to 6 pm for those people to whom the notice has been issued, to find out if the notice issued are genuine or fake. Persons seeking help can also send an e-mail to [email protected].

It is said that the industrialists and traders have been hassled by impersonators who call saying that the I-T department is conducting raids. However, the income tax department strictly advised saying that no official of the I-T department is making a call. The principal commissioner of I-T said that anyone getting such a call must report the matter on the helpline number so that it can be investigated.
