On Sunday, Independent legislator Sheikh Abdul Rashid along with his supporters of Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) held a sit-in here to push Centre government to take active steps to resolve the Kashmir conflict.
Protesters gathered near Press Enclave, shouting slogans against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is visiting the state on Sunday for inaugurating the Chenani-Nashri tunnel. However, they were dispersed peacefully later as per reports. Rashid said that Sunday’s protest was to let the PM know that Kashmir is not about economic packages.
“You are giving so much of hype by constructing that tunnel as if you are doing a big favour to Kashmiris… just cutting short the distance by 10 or 20 kms, does not make a difference.
“We need only one package that is resolution of Kashmir dispute,” he said.
