4:30 PM| A 20-year-old woman, Nikita was shot dead outside her college in Haryana’s Faridabad district on Monday afternoon by two men. According to a report in NDTV, Faridabad Police Officer OP Singh revealed Touseef (one of the two accused), and Nikita knew each other and the former had kidnapped her in 2018 as well. The name of the associate was Rehan. Both accused have been arrested.


4:00 PM| The Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday extended the guidelines for re-opening, which were issued by the Centre on September 30 for the Unlock 5.0, till November 30. The Centre also said that the lockdown will strictly be implemented in containment zones across the country till November 30.

10:15 AM| The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday said it is unsatisfied with the explanation given by former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath with regards to his ‘item’ remark against BJP leader Imarti Devi. The EC advised leaders to not use such words that are against the code of conduct. While Kamal Nath said his motive was not to hurt anyone’s feelings, the EC found his remark to be objectionable, discriminatory, and in violation of the Model Code of Conduct.


Air quality in several parts of Delhi deteriorated further on Tuesday as the pollution level keeps rising in the national capital. Data from the Delhi Pollution Control Board show that the air quality index (AQI) in Rohini, RK Puram, Anand Vihar, and Mundka are all in ‘very poor’ category.

India has recorded 79,46,429 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 1,19,502 deaths. A total of 72,01,070 people have recuperated from COVID-19 so far. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka have reported the highest number of cases. However, infections are rising rapidly in states like Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. Yet, India’s recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 90.23%.

India reported 480 fatalities linked to the coronavirus disease in the last 24 hours, when the country’s Covid tally crossed the 79-lakh mark with 45,148 fresh cases. This is the lowest number of Covid-related deaths the country has reported since July 10 (475).

There has been a wave of new coronavirus cases across the United States, Russia, France, and Europe as winter looms. The fresh rise in cases has forced some countries to impose new curbs, reported news agency Reuters.
