Follow Live Score Updates: India vs Afghanistan, ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

OUT! OUT! OUT! Shami does it for India. First, he removed Nabi and then nailed his yorkers to dismiss Afghanistan for 213 all-out in 49.5 overs to handover a memorable win for his side. India remain unbeaten but were pushed very hard which will keep them under the radar for upcoming games. Meanwhile, Shami becomes the second Indian to claim a World Cup hat-trick for India. Superb! Simply outstanding. India win by 11 runs.

10:40 IST: Nabi went big off Bumrah and accumulated 6 to bring down the equation to 24 off 18 balls. This Shami over is vital as anything. We expect Bumrah to nail the penultimate over but Shami needs to keep the game alive and try and remove Nabi.

10:32 IST: OUT! Chahal flighted it and dipped a bit as Rashid tried to defend but missed and came out of the crease to allow Dhoni do what he does best — Remove the bails with a flash. Afghanistan need 32 off 24 balls.

10:30 IST: Shami has erred a bit, and so did Jadhav on the field with a sloppy work, as Afghanistan add vital 9 runs in their kitty in the 45th over. The equation is now reduced to 40 off 30 balls.

10:20 IST: While Chahal can do by flighting the ball a little bit more, he certainly did his job by bowling an economical 43rd over. Gives only 3 runs and AFG now need 53 off 42 balls.

10:15 IST: OUT! Pandya strikes and India get a crucial wicket in the form of Zadran. It was nudged towards short mid wicket and Chahal took a sitter at the position. Right back in the contest are the Men in Blue!

10:10 IST: Shami bowls a rusty over with two wides and a four off the first delivery itself. The partnership between Zadran and Nabi has been really good. Next over to Bumrah? The asking rate is just above 6 and they need a wicket or two urgently. Or, at least a very tight over. He should be the man for Kohli.

10:04 IST: Pandya bowls a vital over as we are into the last ten with only 68 to defend for India off 60 balls. Bumrah’s three overs will be vital for the Men in Blue. Nabi and Zadran will attack Chahal?

9:57 IST: Things getting stiffer for Afghanistan. Indians have bowled really well and not giving away easy runs. A wicket or two will seal the deal for the Men in Blue. While Shami still has four overs up his sleeves, Chahal and Pandya have two each and three remaining for Bumrah. Afghanistan need another 74 off 66 balls.

9:50 IST: Kuldeep was bit expensive in the last over as per the current scenario. The spinner went for 7 runs as Afghanistan continue to plunder runs with desperate measures. Mohammad Nabi, the man to watch out for India. Removing him can be a massive blow. Shami comes to the attack, he will bowl the 36th over.

9:40 IST: Bowled! Chahal gets the danger-man Afghan! Advantage for Team India nowAfghanistan are five down as pendulum swings in India’s way! Chahal, who went for a boundary on the first ball, gets his revenge on the last one. Brilliant execution by tossing the ball up and getting the better of the batsman. Afghan tried to clear the stands but was clean bowled by Chahal. Asghar Afghan b Chahal 8 (19).

9:30 IST:  Afghanistan are still in this one, despite losing two quick wickets, they have power batsmen in the form of Nabi and Asghar Afghan to build the innings and stage another famous upset in the World Cup. Hardik Pandya leaks 4 runs as run-rate increases. AFG 125-4 after 34 overs. Dot balls and couple of wickets can put India right back in this one. For the time being, its still advantage India.

9:20 IST: Afghanistan are in bid to regroup themselves after Bumrah’s twin dismissals. Virat Kohli trying to juggle bowlers as he wants the run-rate to spike which can force batsmen (Afghan and Nabi) to take risks. End of the 32nd over, AFG are 116/4.

9:10 IST: OUT! Another one bites the dust as Bumrah gets rid of Shahidi with a brilliant caught-and-bowled. India right back in the contest.

9:09 IST: OUT! Bumrah strikes and India get the much-required breakthrough to bounce back in the contest. It was a well-executed short ball and Rahmat pulled but was excellently caught by Chahal at deep fine leg.

9:00 IST: Bumrah brought in at the right time from Kohli. He gives away 6 runs but someone will have to induce a few breakthroughs for India have a firm grip on the match. Have a feeling this is going down the wire. Afghanistan are 104/2 after 27 overs.

8:52 IST: Halfway through and India can draw solace from the fact that they have managed to increase the required run-rate. But, Afghanistan are still in the driver’s seat with 8 wickets in hand. Afghanistan are 91/2 after 25 overs.

8:40 IST: Shahidi and Rahmat have got their eye in. However, the required run-rate has gone above 5. Shahidi will take his chances whereas Rahmat will be the guy who bats deep. Afghanistan are 83/2 after 22 overs.

8:18 IST: OUT! Pandya removes Naib as the overused short-ball ploy finally works wonders for the all-rounder. Vijay Shankar held onto the catch at the deep to give a much-needed breakthrough to Team India. Afghanistan 66/2 after 17 overs.

8:11 IST: KulCha have kept it tight and dropped down the run-rate for Afghanistan. India need to be involved in this game anyhow. Either pick wickets or dry down the runs and force some false strokes by the inexperienced Afghanistani batters. Afghanistan are 61/1 after 16 overs.

7:58 IST: Naib has got a move on and Rahmat will like to play as per the situation and hold his end firmly. The pressure is on. Afghanistan are matching up with the required run-rate. Another wicket required. Afghanistan are 54/1 after 12 overs.

7:46 IST: Right ploy from India as they bring in Yuzvendra Chahal to attack and invite the big shots from Naib-Rahmat.Afghanistan are 29/1 after 9 overs.

7:35 IST: OUT! Shami strikes as Zazai, who never looked comfortable in the middle, went for the big shot and his stumps got rattled. India draw first blood. Zazai 10 b Shami 10 (24).

7:30 IST: Both Bumrah and Shami have hardly given away anything and as a result, both Naib and Zazai are feeling the pressure and trying to slog. They need to be patient and not sweat hard on the present run-rate. They aren’t chasing a mammoth score afterall. Afghanistan are 18/0 after 6 overs.

7:21 IST: Another good over from Bumrah. Zazai is living dangerously and surely the Indian pacers have troubled him. Will he counterattack or perish soon? Afghanistan are 12/0 after 4 overs.

7:15 IST: A very tight over from Shami once again. He has been right on the money and almost had Hazratullah trapped lbw but the ball wasn’t pitching in line, that too by a whisker. Nervy start for the batsman. Gulbadin should have a word with his partner. Afghanistan are 6/0 after 3 overs.

7:05 IST: The chase has begun. Shami gives away only a single. It will be a test of character for both sides. India have already been under the pump by managing only 224 for 8 whereas Afghanistan’s inexperience and ability to play the spinners will be crucial. Afghanistan are 1/0 after 1 over.

12:00 PM | Team news update for IND Vs AFG World Cup Match

India

Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the CWC 2019 following a thumb fracture. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also suffered a hamstring tear which ruled him for two matches. KL Rahul will replace Shikhar Dhawan as opener. Mohammad Shami will in all likelihood play his first match of the ongoing World Cup against Afghanistan.

There is some doubt over Vijay Shankar’s inclusion, who was in pain after being hit on his toes by a Jasprit Bumrah yorker during India’s training session on Wednesday. However, Bumrah revealed that there was no serious concern and Shankar is fit to play.

The 28th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 will be played between India and Afghanistan at the Rose Bowl, Southampton on Saturday, June 22.

India are unbeaten and will be looking to keep the winning momentum going. It will be also a good chance to sort out some of their selections issues. Still, the Virat Kohli-led won’t give away an inch to Afghanistan on Saturday.

Afghanistan, on the other hand, have just not been unable to recreate the magic they did in the World Cup Qualifiers and Asia Cup last year, and have faced five defeats in as many games so far.

They have been below par with both bat and ball and the sloppy fieldwork has also not helped their cause.
