Two quick wickets towards the end of the session and skipper Virat Kohli and Co. will be happy at the end of the session. England must be kicking themselves as they just gave away a terrific start, losing Rory Burns and Daniel Lawrence in quick succession after a terrific start. ENG 67/2 after 27 overs

The openers shared a 63-run partnership before Ashwin removed Burns and then Dan Lawrence fell to Bumrah. Team India will be the happier side going into the lunch break. Dom Sibley will look to make his good start count in the second session.

England openers Rory Burns and Dominic Sibley have passed the first hour of the opening day at Chepauk. Both have managed to put a 51-run stand in 20 overs. India have used Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, R Ashwin and Shahbaz Nadeem so far.

England 10/0 after 5 overs: ripper from Ishant to complete the over. The ball straightens on the seam after moving in line of the middle-stump and Sibley plays all around it. A fine start from India’s bowlers as Kohli has employed an aggressive field for Ishant with Pujara stocked in at silly mid-off.

England 1/0 after 1 over: A fine start from Ishant Sharma and India. Ishant is on the money from ball one and attacks the off-stump first up.

IND vs ENG 1st Test: The international cricket action returns to India for the first time since it came to halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as India hosts England for a four-match Test series, followed by five T20Is and three ODIs.

The first two Test matches take place in Chennai, while the remaining two are scheduled at the revamped Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad. Indian captain Virat Kohli returns to the side after taking paternity leave, as he returned to India after the first Test against Australia in Adelaide in December.

Axar Patel has been ruled out of the first Paytm Test against England. The all-rounder complained of pain in his left knee during Team India’s optional training session on Thursday. He is being monitored by the BCCI Medical Team and while his detailed reports are awaited, he will not be available for selection for the opening match. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has added spinners Shahbaz Nadeem and Rahul Chahar to India’s squad. Both Nadeem and Chahar have been training with Team India as part of the standby group of players.
