Indian women’s hockey team beat Uruguay 4-2

Indian Women Hockey team started their Women’s World League campaign on a winning note defeating Uruguay 4-2 in the penalty shootout. Both the ends were at equal score 2-2 at the end of the regulation play time when Rani, Monika, Deepika and Navjot Kaur took a lead on scoring in a intense penalty.

Skipper Rani also scored a goal early in the sixth minute of the match. India held on to the lead till the third quarter but Uruguay struck their first goal in the 45th minute to equalise through Maria Teresa Viana Ache.

There was a quick break before the final quarter of the match where the Indian chief coach Sjoerd Marijne. Notably, Vandana Katariya’s fine field goal in the 49th minute of the match gave India a lead at the score of 2-1. However, Uruguay’s Manuela Vilar scored a goal in a penalty strike in the 54th minute of the match.

India next face Belarus in their second fixture on Sunday.
