Instagram’s Game-Changer: Tech companies around the world will be racing to include generative AI into their products in 2023. Meta, the newest firm to get on this bandwagon, made the announcement last night at its Meta Connect 2023 event that the popular photo and video sharing app would be getting new generative AI-based features. Users will be able to make their own stickers, as well as tweak existing photos and collaborate on brand new ones, with the help of the platform’s new generative AI-based capabilities.
Now, here are all the new generative-AI-based Instagram features:
Instagram’s Game-Changer: What’s the latest in Instagram’s use of generative AI?
AI stickers are the first of several generative AI-based features coming to Instagram. Users will be able to make their own unique stickers to use in their messages and tales with this new addition. Meta’s Llama 2 open-source large language model (LLM) and picture generation model named Emu will power Instagram’s new AI stickers functionality, rapidly transforming users’ text suggestions into a variety of customized, high-quality stickers. Instagram’s new feature will transform several popular AI-based apps that turn text-based prompts into visuals into stickers to aid in comprehension.
According to Meta, this update will begin trickling out to some users in the English language within the next month.
Computer-aided image editing
Instagram is also adding the ability to edit photos and collaborate on AI-generated photos with friends. Two new tools, Restyle and Backdrop, are being released by the corporation to facilitate this goal.
By applying the user-described visual styles, Restyle will allow users to reinvent their photographs. The new appearance and feel of the image you wish to produce can be described by inputting a descriptor like “watercolor” or a more precise request like “collage from magazines and newspapers, torn edges,” Meta suggested in a blog post. In contrast, a backdrop will alter the background of a user’s photo. “Prompts like ‘put me in front of a sublime aurora borealis’ or’surrounded by puppies’ will cue the tool to create an image of the primary subject in the foreground with the background you described,” the firm explained.
According to Meta, both Restyle and Backdrop will soon be accessible on Instagram.
AI that is AI
The business also introduced Meta AI, an Instagram-like helper, to the public at Meta Connect 2023. Meta claims that their proprietary model, which draws on Llama 2 and the company’s most recent large language model (LLM) research, is the driving force behind Meta AI. Moreover, “in text-based chats, Meta AI has access to real-time information through our search partnership with Bing and offers a tool for image generation,” Meta stated.
Robotic personalities
Finally, the company is releasing a cast of 28 people based on Meta AI that each have their own distinct histories. The business has collaborated with well-known actors and public figures to bring these artificial intelligences to life.
