INTERNATIONAL CAKE DAY DATES
The History of Cake Day
The earliest known reference to cake day comes from the Roman emperor Nero’s wife Poppaea, who is said to have created the first cake day in order to honor her husband’s birthday. The tradition of cake day then spread to other parts of Europe, where it was celebrated on various dates depending on the country.
Cake day eventually made its way to America, where it was initially celebrated on George Washington’s birthday in February. However, after the advent of the International Date Line, cake day began to be celebrated on November 6th in order to maintain uniformity with the rest of the world. Today, cake day is celebrated in countries all over the world, and has become a popular way to show appreciation for friends, family, and loved ones.
