The third Saturday of March of every year is International Sports Car Racing Day, a day to commemorate and celebrate the highly regarded international sport of sports car racing. Taking place on March 16, this year’s International Sports Car Racing Day coincides with the 12 Hours of Sebring sports car endurance race. The International Sports Car Racing Day is observed on the same day that the endurance race takes place in Sebring, Florida, at the International Raceway. We will examine the history, significance, and some interesting facts about the 12 Hours of Sebring, 24 Hours of Daytona, and 24 Hours of Le Mans.
INTERNATIONAL SPORTS CAR RACING DAY HISTORY
Sports car racing is one of the main types of motorsports that utilize sports cars with two seats and enclosed wheels. The 12 Hours of Sebring is a motorsport endurance race for sports cars that is popular worldwide.
On the former Hendricks Army Airfield airfield in Sebring, Florida, it is held at Sebring International Raceway. Originally, it was the second round of the World Sportscar Championship (now discontinued), the I.I.M.S.A. G.T. Championship, and the American Le Mans Series. Currently, the event serves as the second round of the WeatherTeach SportsCar Championship.
The Sebring track was opened on an airfield in 1950. Technically speaking, it is a road racing track that drew inspiration from European Grand Prix tracks. The first race held on this track was a six-hour race on New Year’s Eve in 1950. Following a period of 14 months, the first 12 Hour Endurance Race was held in Sebring. The race takes place during the day and ends at night. We would see teams, car owners, and fans from all over the world attend this exciting annual event that was held on a 17-turn, 3.7-mile road course. International Sports Car Racing Day was established in 2013 to commemorate this extraordinary race.
