On June 21 every year, the world celebrates International Yoga Day. This day is dedicated to Yoga which is a healthy and spiritual lifestyle practice performed across the world.

The ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice has been originated in India and became a part of a better lifestyle. The word Yoga or Yog comes from Sanskrit word and mean “to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness.” The practice has now become extremely popular and has also evolved with time.

United Nation dedicated June 21 as the International Yoga Day by resolution 69/131. It was passed with an aim to raise awareness worldwide of the unending benefits of practicing yoga. The day is celebrated with great fervor all across the world.

International Yoga Day Theme

This year theme of International Yoga Day as per UN is Climate Action whereas India is observing the 2019 theme to be “Yoga for Heart”.  Union minister of state (Independent Charge) for AYUSH said that with the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi the entire world is observing Yoga Day on June 21. He also said, “Yoga has become an important aspect in the life of the people, which is an honorable achievement for the country that has given Yoga to the world.”

He also added that the prime minister will be present in the main event of the day which will be held at Prabhat Tara Maidan in Ranchi. The union minister said that the objective of the center and the state is to take the message of yoga to everyone.

Significance of International Yoga Day

Yoga is associated with the day keeping in mind the holistic health and well being. Health benefits of yoga on our body and mind is indefinite and it is also used to curb disease like diabetes, COPD diseases, arthritic pains, and many other health issues. It has even shown wonders in helping curb obesity and is considered to be a valuable asset that has been treasured in our country since ancient times. The day observes to highlight its benefits and create awareness about the ancient practice.

Also, it should be noted that if anyone is suffering from asthma or breathing issues then they must be careful and avoid doing yoga. Consider speaking with an expert before indulging in any such activity.
