Famous Indian English literature laureate RK Narayan is known for his simple and modest writing style. He is said to have opened windows for non-Indians to peep into Indian culture and sensibilities through his works. His writing style is compared to the renowned American author William Faulkner. RK Narayan gained his popularity for his fictional work Malgudi days.
He belongs to a family with a humble background and was consistently encouraged to involve himself into literature. He took a break after his graduation and started to work on his writing and decided to stay at home.
One of his most famous works Malgudi is an invention of a semi-urban fictional town in Southern India and most of Narayan’s stories revolved around it. This became one the unique style of writing in Indian literature. His contribution to the Indian literature is beyond description and made him win a lot of honour, recognition and laurels.
He was awarded with numerous rewards for his literary work including Sahitya Akademi Award, Padma Bhushan, AC Benson Medal by the Royal Society of Literature, Honorary membership of the American Academy of Arts and Literature, Padma Vibhushan, etc.
