Gurman says the new Pro models will likely arrive next year, but the regular iPhone 18 may not reach stores until 2027. Apple is also working on fresh phone designs for the next few years including its first foldable phone and a new high-end model that sits above the usual lineup.

Gurman explained these changes in his Power On newsletter. He wrote that Apple’s new release plan will start in fall 2026. During that period, he expects the company to show the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max sometime “between September and November.” He also says Apple could finally reveal its first foldable iPhone around the same time. This device may become one of Apple’s biggest hardware moves in many years.
After that the Apple may share the next set of devices in spring 2027. Gurman believes this could happen between March and May. He says the company might introduce the standard iPhone 18, the iPhone 18e, and a new version of the iPhone Air during this second stage. This means Apple will spread the iPhone 18 family over two launch windows instead of releasing everything at once.

Apple Plans a New Release Style
Gurman says Apple is changing its phone schedule for a bigger reason. For many years, Apple pushed almost every major device in the fall. Each year usually brought four big iPhones at the same time, with two Pro models and two mid-range versions. Sometimes the company added an SE or “e” model earlier in the year, but most of the pressure still landed on the fall season.
Gurman says the fall rush “placed significant pressure on engineering teams andsuppliers and the marketing team.” He adds that the heavy workload may have even played a part in the messy launch of Apple Intelligence in 2024, when the company showed how crowded and stressful the fall cycle had become.
Tipsters also say the iPhone 18 Pro Max might become Apple’s heaviest phone ever, but the company has not confirmed that yet. Gurman says Apple may end up offering 5-6 iPhone models every year. He believes this will give customers more choices across the whole year instead of putting everything in one large fall event.
