According to reports by Mumbai Mirror, Cricket Australia(CA) and English Cricket Board(ECB) have told the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI), that their players won’t be available post 1 May for the Indian Premier League.
The player’s auction for IPL 2019 will take place on December 17 and 18 at Jaipur, the report said.
The once-a-year tournament could take place in either UAE or South Africa due to the clash of days with India’s General Elections. In 2014 and 2009 also such situations arose due to the General Elections. In 2014, the first leg took place in the United Arab Emirates. Whereas, in 2009, the tournament was hosted by South Africa in which Gilchrist’s Deccan Chargers won. The tournament is expected to start in the last week of March, before concluding two weeks ahead of the World Cup.
Due to the nearness of the World Cup with the Indian Premier League tournament, a lot of foreign players are expected to leave the tournament mid-way.
Only time will tell if the franchise-based cricket tournament would be able to keep the boards support with them.
