An ISIS video released this week showed ethnic Uighur fighters training in Iraq. The fighters vowed to plant their flag in China and warned that blood will “flow in rivers” in China.
There have been allegations that Uighurs, Muslims from Western China’s Xinjiang region, had gone to Syria and Iraq for militant training.
The half-hour long video purportedly showed Uighurs training and footages inside China, including Chinese police on the streets.
“Hey, brothers! Today, we are fighting with infidels across the world! I’m telling you this: Come and live here! Stay strong!,” one of the fighters said in the video.
“We will certainly plant our flag over America, China, Russia, and all the infidels of the world,” the video added.
The video also showed executions of two unidentified persons.
Responding to the video, Chines Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said that he was not aware of the video and had not seen it.
“But one point is very clear. We oppose any form of terrorism and proactively participate in international cooperation to crack down on terrorism,” Geng told a daily news briefing.
