Data collected from the top four IT firms of the country shows that the IT giants have increased their hiring after it was alarmingly low in the previous financial year.

A published report states that Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, Wipro and HCL Technologies together hired over 70,000 people in the first nine months of current fiscal year, which is stated to be five times higher than the total hiring in the previous fiscal year 2017-2018.

As the IT companies got affected by the rapid adoption of digital technologies by clients, pressure on traditional business, automation, and growing protectionism in their main markets the top 4 IT companies only hired 13,972 people in the previous fiscal year.

Tata Consultancy Services senior executive said “business growth is back and it remains bullish about double-digit growth. This year, TCS has made over 28,000 campus offers. In the corresponding period of last fiscal, the IT exporter had hired 3,657 employees. This year TCS has hired 22,931 employees.

“It’s a significant jump as far as hiring is concerned. And why is that, because there is a corresponding business growth,” Ajoyendra Mukherjee, head of global HR, TCS, told the business daily. “It’s not that we did not anticipate, because we have been saying that our goal is to get back to double digits. We are seeing the market and we believe we have an opportunity to get there.”

India’s second largest IT company Infosys hired 21,398 employees in the first three-quarters of current fiscal and 3,743 people in the same period of last financial year.

“We have had more than $1billion of large deal wins in the last three quarters, many of this will flow through in the coming year. So, we believe that we will continue to do the hiring,” Pravin Rao, chief operating officer at Infosys, had said last month.

Similarly, companies such as HCL Technologies and Wipro hired 12,247 and 12,456 employees respectively in the nine months till December 31. These firms are also going back to college campuses to hire fresh engineers in thousands. Earlier, a report has come in which Wipro has planned to double its campus hiring this year.
